Prayer for Owen Meany

Each day after we meet in groups, one member of each group is responsible for posting a summary of your group’s conversation. We want to hear about specific topics and themes that were discussed; major questions pondered, and key “take-aways” from your discussion. Your post should be free of grammatical and spelling errors and be at least one healthy paragraph.

  1. Over the past couple days, the group reading A prayer for Owen Meany has had some very interesting and thought discussions. On the first day, we just talked about what we understood so far and what we thought about the book so far; so far we all like it and think the author did a very good job structuring the first chapter. The second day, we had an interesting discussion on the role of a father. people made remarks about how it didn't really matter to John, the narrator, at first that he didn't have a father, but it had only occurred to him after the death of his mother. These were the main things that were discussed during our first couple readings.

  2. Again, we had an interesting discussion. This time it was about Tabitha and how men were attracted to her. Everywhere she went, she would meet a man. We also discussed whether or not she was serious about her religion or if she changed churches just to please her new husband, Dan Needham. Along with her "attachment" to men, we discussed whether it was random for Owen to bring up the topic of Tabitha's breasts and her attractiveness, or "sexiness". We disagreed with each other, however we agreed that we disagreed.

  3. Today,we had yet another interesting conversation about what we read for April vacation. We talked about Owen's different personalities. He still has a very sexual side and it is beginning to grow. Along with his very religious side. We talked about Owen's relationship with john's cousin, Hester. We discussed weather Owen got more attractive because he was beginning to pick up more girls at the beach during the summer. John and Owen had a very close relationship that we didn't notice that they were so close.
