The Great Gatsby

Each day after we meet in groups, one member of each group is responsible for posting a summary of your group’s conversation. We want to hear about specific topics and themes that were discussed; major questions pondered, and key “take-aways” from your discussion. Your post should be free of grammatical and spelling errors and be at least one healthy paragraph.

  1. In the discussion for chapter 3, we talked mainly about Gatsby and his personality. The author does not write specific details about the characters. He sets situations that make you uncover the characteristics of each character. Because of the lavish party that Gatsby has every weekend, we came to realize that he does have a very big fortune and that he does not have many friends since most of his guests are strangers. For the next chapter, we will be focusing on money and wealth and its role in the book

  2. In the discussion group for chapter four, we reviewed the chapter and discussed it. We spent a lot of time talking about how it relates to the previous chapters and Gatsby's life. For example the elaborate parties that Gatsby hosted confused us since they were extremely lavish and they took place every weekend, but we realized that Gatsby had those parties and allowed anyone to come in hopes of Daisy coming. In this chapter we caught a glipse of the love that Gatsby and Daisy have for each other. For the next chapter, we will be focusing on money again.

  3. For the group dicussion we had on chapter five, we reviewed the chapter again. Together we clarified the questions and confusions that stumbled us. With the help of our dear Ms. McGarry, we finally realized that a very big part of the book itself is about money. It is not only about love, but about money and its role in life. For chapter six, we do not have something specific to focus on, but rest assure that money will come up again.

  4. In the discussion for the first chapter of Jane Eyre, we talked about how Jane was her own heroine . We said that its very similar to the story of Cinderella how her father dies and she lives with her step mother and step siblings. We thought she was her own heroine because even though she is abused by her step brother, she defends herself even though she knows she will have to face the consequences later .
